Full Moon 15.12.24

Every Full Moon is an opportunity to release and let go. It is a time of reflection and integration. A time when energies culminate to a fullness, heightened emotion and self-awareness arise, offering us the opportunity to surrender our egoistic tendencies and elevate our consciousness.

Full Moon energies last for several days after its peak and set the tone for the month ahead. The energies reflected by the Moon are received by the waters of every earthly body, including humans.

🌕The Moon represents our reflective mind. Just as the Moon is illuminated by the light of the Sun, the manas is the part of our mind that is conditioned by and reflects the external world. Therefore, the Moon represents our memory, as well as our emotions and, when elevated, our intuition. This is the final Full Moon of the calendar year of 2024, which makes it an opportune time for reflecting on the last twelve months so we may integrate the lessons received. What went well? Where did we rise to the occasion and evolve? Which seeds did we neglect to nurture and value? What has inspired new desire within us?

EXALTED MOON in MRIGASHIRSHA

FULL MOON December 15th, 2024 at 1:05am PST

The Full Moon is exalted in Taurus where it will align with the Nakshatra, or Star 🌟 of Mrigashirsha. When the Moon is exalted, it receives a lot of energy from its placement. Therefore, our minds may feel more energized, awake and bright during this time. The Moon represents our mental wellness, our emotions and our general ability to experience happiness. All of these aspects of self will receive a boost of energy, and as Taurus is ruled by Venus, we may also experience an energetic charge around our creativity, pleasure senses, sensuality and the desire to express how we feel.

Mrigashirsha is a star symbolized by a deer running through the forest. It is often referred to as “the wanderer”, or the “the one searching”. Mrigashirsha represents the quest for fufillment. It is a passionate star that is searching for pleasure, joy, connection, sustenance in the forms of food, as well as soul nourishment. Mrigashirsha is ruled by Mars and the deity known as Soma. Mars is a passionate planet that often gets into competition, but ultimately, when evolved, seeks to serve. The intensity of Mars provides necessary energy and courage to chase our dreams, but as I mentioned in my previous Light Letter, is currently debilitated and retrograde in Cancer. Whenever a planet is retrograde it brings latent karma to the surface for shedding and healing. Those with strong Mars in their birth chart are likely experiencing intense fluctuations in energy levels, mood swings and are moving through karmic events that may be offering some challenges throughout the next few months. However, this is always an opportunity to evolve if approached with humility.

In the Vedic teachings, Soma is also another name for the Moon and represents the nectar of bliss. Soma is the deity of health, wellness and plants. He is the healer of disease through the use of plant medicines, which makes this an excellent time to welcome therapeutic plant remedies and even Spirit plant medicines, if we feel called, into our lives.

The deer is a swift, graceful, quiet, intelligent, loving and sensitive animal. Keenly attuned to their environment and perhaps one of the most sensitive forest creatures, they are nevertheless extremely strong and beautiful beings. I was once gifted by the forest a beautiful deer antler and keep it on my altar to this day to remind me of these qualities. So often one hears stories of a car accidentally hitting a dear and moments later it jumps up and bounces away… Resilience is after all such an important quality to have in life.

Mrigashirsha is a soft energy so this is not the time for harsh words, confrontation or extreme discipline. It is, however, a time where you may find yourself searching for something.. whether it’s the car keys, that perfect gift or greater purpose and meaning in life, do not be surprised if you find yourself on a hunt of some kind. You may also find yourself called to taking a trip ~ long or short ~ as the wanderlust spirit of this Moon’s energy will have many feeling the desire for a change of scenery this month.

MOON with JUPITER (R)

The Moon will conjoin with Jupiter in Taurus where the Guru planet has been stationed for most of the year. When Moon and Jupiter are together it forms a special yoga in Jyotish that brings an elevated sense of optimism and leadership. Wisdom and inspiration may find you as Jupiter’s second transit through the Nakshatra of Rohini in Taurus (now in retrograde) offers us a second look at an opportunity that may have surfaced earlier this Summer.

Rohini’s shakti (power) is to Grow and Jupiter’s energy is abundant, wise and expansive. This combination offers some kind of opportunity to expand and grow in one’s life. Whether we choose to be more generous with others, find new ways to serve, or focus on expanding our knowledge through learning, the combination of an energized Moon (mind) and retrograde Jupiter (wisdom) creates fertile ground for insight and inspiration to find us.

MERCURY GOES DIRECT

Just a few hours after the peak of the Full Moon, Mercury will direct in Scorpio after its third and final retrograde period of 2024. This alignment with an exalted Full Moon is considered auspicious. There may be a sudden and profound clearing of confusion, doubt and worry. As if from “no where”, a solution to a problem, which has been weighing you down, may suddenly and swiftly arise. Insight and inspiration can come with great ease during this time so pay attention to those intuitive nudges and take time to meditate, contemplate and be still in awareness. All of these practices create the mental space truly needed for insight and divine guidance to find us.

Once direct, Mercury continues its transit through Scorpio until January 3, 2025 when it will move into Sagittarius. Whilst in Scorpio, we will continue to see revelatory information coming to the surface, personally and collectively. Certainly in the headlines this has been noticeable as many dark secrets, suppressed and repressed information has come to light about a variety of influential individuals and organizations. Mercury represents the higher mind, the intellect, as well as the social life, community, technology and travel. (read all about Mercury here). Mercury is the Messenger and as such, brings information to light and knowing. Therefore, while in Scorpio, Mercury is revealing secrets and shedding light on aspects of our lives we may have ignored or had hidden from us. Keep in mind, these could be wonderful surprises as well. Intuition may feel particularly potent during this time.

SUN GANDANTA

As the Sun transits from Scorpio to Sagittarius from December 12 - 18th, it is “Gandanta”, which means it is transiting from a water sign into a fire sign. As it makes this transit it is “letting off steam” and essentially recalibrating its energies. Those who have planets within these degrees of their birth chart, and Leo rising or Leo Moon may feel particularly affected by this transit as Sun rules Leo. Energy levels may fluctuate rather dramatically and it is common to feel lethargic and ungrounded during this time.

The Gandanta period is likened to the “untying of a knot”, particularly a karmic knot. Like steam rising off water when the Sun shines on it, karmas can suddenly rise to the surface to be released. So there can be sudden emotional releases, which, when combined with the Full Moon, may make this an extra sensitive few days. Do not be surprised if plans fall through or if you struggle to make clear decisions about what you want to do. Try to observe and be the witness to what comes up rather than getting caught up in an old story ~ allow it to teach you something new about yourself and it can be a very rewarding experience rather than a debilitating one. It will quickly pass and you can support yourself with grounding Spiritual practices, meditation, good sleep and healthy food.

VENUS in CAPRICORN

As I mentioned in my last Light Letter, Venus moves into Capricorn for December. What this means I outlined in detail previously, but what I’d like to mention here is that from Dec 10-22nd, Venus will be in the Nakshatra of Shravana. This is particularly beautiful because the Shakti (power) of Shravana is “Making Connections” ~ this creates an ideal time for doing exactly that, especially when it comes to a shared love of the arts.

Many will find new romance with long term potential during this window ~ so if you get invited to the theatre, a gallery or a party, and you would like to meet someone new, allow yourself to venture in with an open mind and brave heart. If you are already in a committed relationship, you may tune into this time to begin a new, enduring chapter together by exploring the greater depths of your sensuality, sexuality and shared artistic interests.

Shravana is connected to higher learning and spiritual knowledge. Its symbol is the Ear and therefore, resonates deeply with music and oral wisdom traditions. Naturally it gives the ability to listen and tune in, which as we all know, is fundamental to making connections and nurturing relationships of any kind.

Paramount to any relationship we have with another, is the relationship we have with ourselves, Soul and Source. Therefore, if you truly are just not in the mood for people during this time, how wonderful to take this time to be in stillness and listen to the wisdom-filled sounds of silence… tune into Spirit in meditation, creativity and nature and connect with your beautiful Self!

IN SUMMATION

December is turning out to be an illuminating month. The Full Moon this weekend with Mercury moving direct gives everyone a welcome boost of mental clarity and inspiration for the rest of the month and holiday season ahead. Although Mars and Jupiter retrograde continue to bring karma and perhaps some challenges to the surface, the light of the Full Moon and Mercury’s return to direct motion bring us new energy, clarity, release and insight into the challenges we may be experiencing.

I hope that this information has been helpful and allows you to discover new perspectives for your life path however it may be unfolding for you. Although it is a busy time of year, may you find some time to reflect upon this calendar year coming to a close. As my Teacher Anandji is fond of reminding us, “Growth is only that which is integrated”, otherwise it is just information, which we so easily forget… ~ as you so generously give to all those who are in your life, may you remember and find space to give yourself the gift of receiving the LOVE found in being here now.

If you have any questions or comments, or would like to share what is happening in your life, I’m here to respond and look forward to hearing from you!
